2016 – a year in pictures and words

Ah well, 2016. I´m probably not the only one who is glad that this year is coming to an end. For me, 2016 was a rollercoaster of emotions. There was stress, frustration and bad news, both personally and globally, but there were also moments of happiness, there was sunshine, there was travel and personal highlights. I lived in Berlin for three months, went to London and traveled through South Africa, I spent way too much time in front of my computer battling with my master thesis, I laughed and cried and pretty much experienced the whole range of human emotions. It was a year of growth, of reflection, of challenging oneself and a year in which I learned a lot about myself.

The days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve are usually the days of reflection, of looking back and forward. I preferred looking back than looking forward, mostly because 2017 for me is one big question mark. University is over and for the first time in my life I have absolutely no idea where I am going to end up, personally, locally and career wise. It´s equally terrifying and exciting but it leaves little room for definitive plans. Still, even though I´m not the biggest fan of New Year’s resolutions, there are still a couple of things I´d like to pursue in the next year. Reducing the amount of trash in daily life. Learning to become more calm, mindful and thankful. Letting go of stress on a run through the woods. Finishing the scarf I promised my boyfriend I´d make for him. Making a happiness jar. And mostly, bringing a little bit more love, happiness and kindness into this world.

It sounds super corny but witnessing the amount of hate, negativity and plain meanness throughout this year, especially on social media, I found it hard not to become a complete cynic. Which was why I cherished the moments of kindness that presented themselves throughout the year. A lovely comment on the blog or Instagram. The message from an old friend wanting to get back in touch. The cake my colleagues made for me on my last day. A small gesture from loved ones. Reading through these comments. I want to keep those small feelings of gratefulness alive. This can take all kinds of forms. Getting involved for a good cause, donating, inviting the neighbors for a cup of coffee, letting the best friend now why they are truly awesome, leaving a comment on my favorite blog…actions have consequences and I want my consequences to be positive ones.

Which is why I´m giving away three of my prints and hope, that somebody might find pleasure in them. If you want to have one of the following three pictures, just leave a comment with your name and email address (won´t show) until the 6th of January and let me now about your resolutions for the next year. Do you have any, do you think resolutions are silly, is there anything special you wish for the next year?

Until then, I´m wishing everyone a happy New Year´s Eve and hope to see you all in 2017.berlin-2-von-1

  1. Hallo Ineke,

    Feli
